Melissa Campey

Melissa is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the College Library and ensuring that the space, services and resources support the needs of John’s students and help them to thrive. Working with fellow library staff, student assistants, the St John’s College Library Committee and wider college staff, Melissa manages the purchase and circulation of books, helps students find and use physical and electronic library resources, supports Cranmer Hall tutors with reading lists, gathers student feedback and implements library service improvements. Melissa is always keen to support wider college activities with book displays or pop-up libraries and loves to hear from students wanting to collaborate. The College Library is a place where John’s students can study and learn together, find books that support their academic work, personal interests and wellbeing and have a voice in shaping the library space.

Melissa has an English Literature degree from Durham University and studied Information and Library Management at Northumbria University. Before moving into Librarianship, Melissa spent several years working for a charity as an Independent Mental Health Advocate, which is where she first developed a love of empowering people to access, understand and use information effectively. Prior to joining St John’s, Melissa held a mixture of customer facing and content service roles in a large academic library, which was excellent preparation for the broad range of tasks involved in running a College Library.
