Housekeeper
Lynne Thompson
Lynne leads the Housekeeping team that is responsible for cleaning and maintaining student accommodation, public areas, and shared facilities throughout the College. Students get the opportunity to meet all staff as they rotate areas each week and the Assistant Housekeeper covers for holidays and sickness. They also clean rooms at the end of the academic year and when the rooms are available for the public to book as B&B and for the use of conference delegates the may be hosting – just like a hotel.
Lynne trained in catering and hotel management at Darlington Technical College from 1982-1984. She gained work experience in several hotels from 3 to 5 stars in England and the Channel Isles, and worked at Newcastle university in halls of residence although it had not gained university status at that time – it was still a polytechnic!! Through this varied experience Lynne gained a solid foundation to run housekeeping departments and knowledge of the hospitality industry.
She began at St. John’s in January 1999 starting as a Domestic Assistant then as Housekeeper to the Domestic Manager. Over the years she have seen many changes to our lovely buildings, and the introduction of lots of new legislation, policies and technology. Despite all of this John’s remains a very ‘close knit’ and friendly community with very much a family feel – which is why she’s chosen to to stayed for such a long time.
