Sophie Jones

Sophie Jones

Sophie Jones is a PhD student at Union Theological College, Belfast. Her research focuses on the interplay of music, theology, and literature in the life of Irish writer C.S. Lewis. Sophie performs regularly with the Priory Singers and New Irish Arts. She has spoken at C.S. Lewis Societies in Oxford and Cambridge, and academic conferences in Ireland and France. Sophie is a Continuing Scholar of the Wade Center, Wheaton College, and serves on the conference organising committee for the International Network for Music Theology.

Sophie read Music at Durham University, where she was choral scholar at St John’s and Hatfield Colleges. In 2024, Sophie completed an MPhil in Musicology at the University of Cambridge. Her research, supervised by Professor Jeremy Begbie, focused on the musical imagination of C.S. Lewis. At Cambridge, Sophie held the Trinity Hall Instrumental Award for saxophone performance, and sang in the Magdalene College Chapel choir and St Edmund’s Schola. She completed an internship at the Getty Sing Conference in Nashville, and serves with several ministries focusing on creativity in the Christian life.

As Etchells Fellow, Sophie looks forward to exploring music, imagination, and literature in conversation through creative workshop, and continuing to develop her interdisciplinary research.
